Churchill Valley Greenway Management & Stewardship Plan

Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) successfully conserved the 151-acre Churchill Valley Greenway in 2021. Soon after, we worked with stakeholders to develop plans for the site. The Churchill Valley Greenway Stewardship & Management Plan outlines goals for ALT to accomplish on-site between 2025-2035.

Major activities ALT will take on as outlined in this plan and its Conceptual Planning Report include:

      • AMD System Installation & Implementation
      • Large-Scale Wetland Restoration to Convert the Channelized Stream into a Natural Wetland Habitat
      • Trail Connectivity & Accessibility Enhancements (pictured below & linked here to plan rendering)
      • Creation of Opportunities for Sustainable Passive Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Education
      • Ecological Restoration to Increase Habitat and Biodiversity (link to plan rendering)
      • Parking Lot Repair & Improvements (link to plan rendering)

CVG Stewardship & Management Plan – Trail Phases by Allegheny Land Trust

Parking and trail access will shift during the implementation of various parts of this plan. Trees will be cut, fill will be moved around the site, and construction vehicles will be present across the green space. These will be short-term sacrifices of access and aesthetics as we make improvements that will better the green space in the long term. We hope you will bear with us for the sake of future benefits to visitors, flora, and fauna.

CHURCHILL VALLEY GREENWAY STEWARDSHIP & MANAGEMENT PLAN

This planning process was made possible thanks to funding from the Allegheny County Regional Asset District, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the Open Space Institute. We would also like to thank local elected officials, local leadership, grassroots supporters, consultants, and other stakeholders who attended our public planning meetings. The diverse input offered from the community was crucial to forming this plan for the ongoing care and usage of the Greenway.
