Overview
Churchill Valley Greenway is located along Beulah Road in the municipalities of Churchill and Penn Hills on the site of the former Churchill Valley Country Club. The land hosts former cart paths and community-forged trails, and is adjacent to the Bullock Pens Park and Blackridge Civic Association.
Abandoned for a decade prior to ALT’s acquisition of it in 2021, the former golf course is reverting to a natural meadow, and is now home to an impressive and growing list of native birds, animals, and wildflowers.
Many enjoy walking, bicycling, bird-watching, on-leash dog-walking, and more at the greenway. We hope you’ll explore its beautiful open fields, stream-side trail, and woodland paths. Allegheny Land Trust is currently making improvements to the land; visit this page for updates, and find more information in the Conceptual Planning Report from February 2022.
ACCESS
Planning on heading out to Churchill Valley Greenway? Please note that all existing trails and trailheads are community-forged. As an abandoned golf course that we’ve recently protected, some infrastructure may still be in a rough state. Please use caution and be patient with us as we work to improve this land.
Background
Neighbors of the 151-acre Churchill Valley Greenway approached Allegheny Land Trust to protect this unique local land. Abandoned for approximately a decade, the country club site had begun reverting to natural green space, and was already home to many species of native flora and fauna. Area residents made grassroots efforts to raise awareness of and dollars for protecting Churchill Valley Greenway. On Earth Day 2021, that goal was realized – the funds were fully raised, and ALT was able to purchase and protect the land. Now, it will forever remain green space for the health, well-being, and enjoyment of current residents and future generations.
