Trail Steward Meetup at Girty’s Woods
December 7 @ 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Current and aspiring trail stewards hike and talk
On-time arrival for this meetup is required, but participants may choose how long they wish to stay.
Current trail stewards of any ALT property, folks looking to get involved in trail stewardship, and anyone interested in Girty’s Woods- all are welcome to join!
ALT’s Field Coordinator will lead a full-day hike of Girty’s Woods’ existing trail system to assess current trail conditions, discuss seasonal volunteer needs, and plan for the future. While we’ll focus on specific details of Girty’s trails, the tasks and skills will be applicable to trails at all ALT spaces. In addition to observing and assessing stewardship needs in the field, we’ll also discuss how stewards should record, communicate, and plan to address these needs.
Close-toed shoes and long pants are required. Participants should be prepared for a challenging walk—we’ll be hiking established trails, trails in need of maintenance, and rougher works-in-progress. Please bring a fully-charged phone, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Those who don’t wish to stay for the entire hike should be comfortable wayfinding with a google map.
Light snacks, extra water bottles, and tools will be provided, but participants should be prepared to treat this meetup as a self-supported hike. There are no restrooms, fountains, or garbage cans available, and we ask that everyone practice Leave No Trace. Hunting season is active on ALT properties and hi-vis orange clothing is advised.
Event details will be sent to you following registration, and all registrants will be contacted a day prior to the event with any pertinent updates. Please contact dani@alleghenylandtrust.org with any questions.
