Background
Protecting Beadnell Slopes provides benefits including enhancing water quality of the tributary to Big Sewickley Creek, protecting wildlife habitat, and providing recreation opportunities for visitors. The property is within the Campmeeting Woods BDA as defined by the Allegheny County Natural Heritage Inventory. This BDA is recognized as both a high diversity area and a community/ecosystem conservation area, which surrounds a significant forest stream community. Conservation of the property is also identified in the Sewickley Heights Vision Plan.
According to the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program, Pennsylvania Conservation Explorer tool, Beadnell Slopes is proximate to lands supporting the great blue heron (Ardea herodias), a Pennsylvania Game Commission species of special concern, as well as lands identified as core forest and aquatic habitat for the Big Sewickley Creek Woods natural heritage area. The property provides supporting landscape for the Big Sewickley Creek Woods natural heritage area, Lower Raccoon Creek, and the Ohio River, each of which supports species of special concern.
