Land Stewardship

To uphold our nationally-accredited status and best care for our lands, ALT’s stewardship team develops and implements management plans for each conservation area. We care for and restore our conserved green spaces for perpetual community benefit.

Our goals are:
1. Care for and restore the land, habitat, and waterways of critical need
2. Expand capacity to address urgent need to increase conservation and meet national accreditation standards
3. Create a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors at our featured properties
4. Strategically align with partners to create new, innovative programming and projects

Volunteer Program | With an ever-growing number of acres conserved, our Stewardship Team thrives with the helping hands of our many volunteers. Our volunteers – whether they come from corporate workday crews, partner organizations, public workdays, or solo volunteering – help us maintain and improve our lands through a variety of tasks, including trash removal, trail-building, invasive species management, tree plantings, and so much more. Hunting Program | Another way we manage our lands’ ecological health is by allowing hunting at some of our green spaces. Over-abundant populations of deer result in reduced plant and wildlife habitat, increased damage to native species management areas, and increased habitat for pests like ticks. By curating our hunting program, our Stewardship Team can support habitat health while minding the experience of various user groups of our lands. Learn more by clicking the linked box below.

Know Before You Go | We manage our green spaces namely to support their ecological health and vitality, which – in turn – benefits all of us. At our green spaces that lend themselves well to visitors, we also aim to keep the trails clean and clear. We’ve put together a helpful guide, including a link to active notices (things like trail closures, etc.), for you to explore before your visit. Learn more by clicking the linked box below.
