SUMMARY:Tree Steward Program Field Training- Venango Trail
DESCRIPTION:Hands-on training to become an ALT Tree Steward\n\nRegistration is required so we can communicate in case of any necessary changes. \nALT’s Tree Stewardship program is a volunteer-powered effort to collect data on and care for restoration trees at ALT’s conservation areas. Tree Stewards receive the tools and training to tend to thousands of restoration trees across Allegheny County to ensure a healthy\, thriving canopy. \nField training sessions are small group workdays to familiarize new and current Tree Stewards with all aspects of the program; data collection\, tagging\, deer protection maintenance\, and tree care. \nLong pants and close-toed shoes are required and long sleeves are recommended. Tools\, gloves\, and light snacks will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle and a fully charged cellphone. Volunteers can expect to walk up to two miles on varied terrain. There are no restrooms on site. \nWorkdays will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. \n\nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Educator Workshop: 3 Rivers Watch & Nurdle Patrol
DESCRIPTION:A workshop in the Aquatic Academy Series\n\nJoin an all-star lineup of ALT\, Pittsburgh Water and Three Rivers Waterkeeper staff for the last installment of our Aquatic Academy workshop series: 3 Rivers Watch and Nurdle Patrol! This hands-on\, immersive experience designed for educators teaching 5th grades and up. \nThree Rivers Waterkeeper staff will lead this session on kayaks (provided by Steel City Rowing Club) where they will provide training on how to spot and report water pollution while you’re out on the water! The 3 Rivers Watch training sessions include information about the types of pollution found in our waterways and how to report it. We will spend about two hours on the water and two hours on land while we talk about what impacts the quality of our Three Rivers\, search for plastic pellets (nurdles)\, and explore methods of education and advocacy for our communities. We’ll break up the kayaking with a short walk around ALT’s Sycamore Island on the Allegheny River. \nApproximately $100 worth of resources will be given to educators in attendance. You must register to attend; no walk-ins will be permitted. You must show up and attend the entire day to receive your resources. \n5.5 hours of ACT 48 are available. Lunch is provided. Part of this workshop will include time outdoors kayaking and touring Sycamore Island. Water shoes\, or shoes that can get wet and muddy are recommended. Please dress prepared for the weather that day! \nFinancial and other support for the Aquatic Academy has been provided by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Grants Program. \nTICKETS
