Members-Only: History Hike & Whiskey Tasting
May 12 @ 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Now, for 25 years, Allegheny Land Trust has helped local people save local land in the Pittsburgh region. Every resident of Allegheny County lives within 12 miles of one of ALT’s Conservation Areas; Dead Man’s Hollow was ALT’s first and remains among its most popular conservation areas.
Join us in celebrating our anniversary by getting outdoors with our team for our 4 Members-Only hikes in 2018. Membership is required for attendees. Not a member yet? Add it to your registration when checking out.
HISTORY HIKE & LOCALLY-DISTILLED WHISKEY TASTING @ DEAD MAN’S HOLLOW
Step back in time as we explore and uncover the grisly past that gave Dead Man’s Hollow its name. We will be discussing the murderous events, drownings, and bootlegger stories in and around the hollow over the past 140 years. Attendees will learn how to read the land to rediscover old foundations, roads, and other items left behind by communities that once called Dead Man’s Hollow “home”. Finally, attendees will sample locally-distilled whiskey as we talk about the old stills that were hidden in the hollow, and the murder supposedly linked to the hooch, or “white lightning” moonshine.
Wigle Whiskey staff will be on hand to do a whiskey sampling with participants!
This is a 21 and over event.
